Devon Japanese Garden

The garden surrounds the house but is primarily located to the side of the house which is south west facing. Including the gravel entrance drive, the property occupies an area of approximately 30m x 48m and the soil is acidic, loamy sand. The client wanted to retain the gravel drive and an existing shed, but wanted the existing patio extended, a new garden office added and them all connected by a curvilinear lawn which will a “pond” in a traditional Japanese stroll garden. This is then surrounded by curvilinear borders with a dry stream flowing into the “pond”. The borders will be planted with Japanese plants and a wildflower area.

Requirements for the new garden/landscape architecture:

  • Large lawn
  • Dry stream
  • Garden office
  • Raised vegetable bed, cold frame and compost bays
  • Paving to match the existing patio stones
  • Access to the garden office in wet weather
  • Japanese planting
  • Wildflower meadow near the garden office

The garden is being constructed by Urban Earth of Exmouth, the stones will be sourced from Rhino Rock.
