Limestone Quarry Garden

This is a large, south facing garden on the rear side of a contemporary extension to a small cottage near Blandford, Dorset. The garden was to be set in an old quarry, with a view of farmland across a lane to the east and steep banks to the south and west. It was completely overgrown apart from a garage and the base for a drive around which was a curved retaining wall with steps up to the house. The clients wanted a curvilinear garden with several seating areas and significant borders for cottage garden planting.

Requirements for the new garden design/landscape architecture:

  • A patio outside the bifold doors from the lounge
  • Winding paths to a patio outside a shed which will be later converted into a summer house
  • A high level path around the circular quarry area with paths leading down to a lawn
  • A retaining wall on the west side near the house

This garden was constructed by Gregorys Landscaping in Piddlehinton and the plants supplied by Chichester Trees and Shrubs.
