Victorian-Japanese Garden

Victorian-Japanese Garden

This is a garden surrounding a Victorian house near the sea in Weymouth.  The front is south facing and the soil is acidic loam.  The couple have a young child so there needs to be room for him to play, but they do not want a specific play area.  The house has an octagonal turret which they would like reflected in the garden.  There are 3 Acers in the garden which they love, so would like to develop a Japanese planting theme.

Requirements for the new garden design/landscape architecture:

  • A formal entrance that would also be suitable for children to play on
  • An area to park 3-4 cars, hidden from the rest of the garden
  • A limestone terrace on 2 sides of the house, accessed via bifold doors from a new kitchen extension
  • A small area with raised flower beds and a rotary washing line
  • Potential for a swimming pool, but initially this are should be laid to lawn
  • A pergola

Here is the Conceptual Plan:
